These are polypores or bracket fungi, of which there are over one thousand different species. As most bracket fungi are sensitive to specific environmental conditions, if you see a particular species growing prolifically in an old growth forest you can safely conclude that it's a sign of health and biodiversity.


Even along the forest paths that we must follow in certain locations, because of the sensitivity of the old growth forest, you'll see plenty of these bracket fungi and marvel at how they're able to process rotting wood into rich soil, further facilitating continuous forest regeneration.
